Waterproofing

Waterproofing involves making an object or structure waterproof or water-resistant so that it is relatively unaffected by the presence of moisture or water. Waterproofing is generally completed by experts and during the initial building process of a structure. There are numerous types of waterproofing. Some examples include;

Cementitious waterproofing – consisting of sand, silica-based substances and chemicals which when combined, cause a hydration reaction to form a waterproof seal on the surface,
Liquid membrane waterproofing – a liquid membrane is applied to the surface using a roller which cures to a rubber-like coating,
Bituminous waterproofing – using bitumen-based materials to form a protective coating over the surface,
Polyurethane liquid waterproofing – liquid polyurethane is applied to the surface, offering a high degree of protection for high exposure surfaces.

The right method of waterproofing will depend on the surface to be waterproofed, its location, purpose and the environmental surrounds.
